Biography:

Hiroko Miura is a 31-year-old visual artist from Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios, Peru. As the director of the non-governmental organization ISSIA (Innovative Solutions for Social Impact), founded by women from Madre de Dios, Peru, she has dedicated her career to addressing social and environmental issues through art and project management.

Throughout her career, she has participated in several international exhibitions. In 2021, she presented her project "TIQSI", a photographic audiobook, at the International Photography Festival in Valparaíso, Chile, and at the Photography Studies Center in Córdoba, Argentina. In 2022, her research "La fiebre del oro" was presented at the Art and Design Laboratory of the Catholic University of Peru.

Her most recent research on illegal mining in Madre de Dios highlights the devastation of ecosystems and the impact on native and local communities. Hiroko founded ISSIA to work with these communities and address basic needs such as education, health, access to water, and emergency response, as well as promote sustainable development projects and value chain integration to ensure community income and prevent their return to illegal mining. Hiroko believes in the importance of meeting basic community needs to focus on conservation.
