The ACEER film series* is a new effort started in 2021 to share amazing stories related to the ACEER mission. We select films that raise awareness, stimulate conversation and compliment our conservation efforts in the Amazon basin and around the globe. Most of our films are free but periodically we show films as fundraisers.
*With the global COVID-19 pandemic, all screenings are virtual until further notice.

Guardians of the Forest

Guardians of the Forest is an award-winning documentary film that tells the inspiring story of the Maijuna Indigenous group of the Peruvian Amazon as they fight for their biologically rich ancestral lands and cultural survival. The Maijuna culture is sustained and nourished by their heavily forested ancestral territory, which is increasingly threatened by outsiders. This powerful documentary film tackles critical topics such as rainforest conservation, Indigenous rights and lifeways, community empowerment, and environmental justice, among others.

Guardians of the Forest

After years of fighting, on June 17, 2015, the President of Peru signed a bill protecting Maijuna ancestral lands. Now the illegal construction of a road is cutting through the Conservation Area, threatening the Maijuna’s sovereignty and traditional culture.

River of Gold
Our friends at the Amazon Aid Foundation bring us River of Gold, a documentary. The River of Gold Project examines the devastating and global environmental and humanitarian consequences of small scale illegal gold mining in the Amazon and provides solutions in order to save the Amazon Rainforest. Find out how you can be a part of the solution.
The film will be available to the ACEER community from April 15th through April 20th, 2021. Join us for a live virtual screening on April 20th at 6:00 PM EDT, followed but a live Q & A session immediately following the film. You don’t want to miss this one!

Aguilucho: Dance of the Harpy Eagle
Our friends at Skyship Films bring us Aguilucho: Dance of the Harpy Eagle, a documentary short about indigenous-led conservation efforts to bring back the endangered Harpy Eagle to the remote Darién Gap rainforest in Panamá. The Emberá tribal community of Playa Muerto live here, in one of the last untouched rainforests in Central America—the only break in the 19,000-mile Pan-American Highway, which winds from Alaska to Argentina. The film is an exploration of a renewed relationship between the tribe and the great raptor, in the face of threats to the species and its ecosystem from deforestation and encroachment from loggers.
From the development of collaborative monitoring practices to the revival of an ancient Eagle Dance, this incredible relationship is a model for conserving both a culture and a rainforest. The film was made in partnership with the Emberá of Playa Muerto and The Peregrine Fund, who work tirelessly in Panamá and around the world alongside various indigenous peoples to help save birds of prey from extinction.

Voices on the Road
Deep in the remote Peruvian Amazon a road is quietly destroying a protected rainforest, causing conflict and fear. But for some indigenous communities, desperate for change, it also brings hope. The road is cutting through a UNESCO World Heritage Site – the Manu Biosphere Reserve – and opening it up to the outside world.
