"The beauty of our planet and the creatures within it is priceless. It is only through conservation efforts that we can protect such unique and valuable areas for both their intrinsic value as well as for generations to come."

Biography:

Sean Connolly is a recent graduate of Georgetown University’s Environment and Sustainability Management program, a graduate program where he studied at the confluence of business practices and environmental science.

Prior to this program, Sean completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Scranton where he dual-majored in Business Analytics and Philosophy and ran NCAA D3 cross-country and track & field for the Royals.

An avid outdoorsman and hiker, Sean made the Adirondack Mountains of New York State his home over the last few summers where he conducted research on aquatic invasive species (AIS) in inland water bodies and sought to help prevent their spread via recreational watercraft into the park while working with the Adirondack Watershed Institute of Paul Smith’s College. Sean hopes to hone his skills within both data analysis as well as scientific inquiry to help reduce global carbon emissions and mitigate climate change risk.

Working with Dr. Griffiths, I hope to use data analysis and visualization techniques to understand the relationship between different species within the Amazon Rainforest and naturally-occurring mineral licks. With these relationships we can infer the mineral and nutrient needs of many different species including the Lowland Tapir and the Howler Monkey.
