Biography:

Ellen is an incoming graduate student at Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment where she will pursue a Master of Environmental Management in terrestrial and freshwater systems and data analytics. She will also pursue a GIS certificate. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies with a minor in GIS from The George Washington University. Ellen’s career aspirations involve protecting habitats and biodiversity with the goal of helping communities sustainably manage their local ecosystems and natural resources. Passionate about applying geospatial analysis toward conservation goals, Ellen previously interned with SkyTruth to help hold polluters accountable for environmental degradation by analyzing satellite imagery. While studying at GWU, she researched the effects of habitat changes on periodical cicadas in Maryland to estimate the population numbers of the next emergence cycle. She also interned for the U.S. Department of Justice Environmental Crimes Section to fight Endangered Species Act violations. Originally from Charleston, South Carolina, Ellen loves to kayak and look for bottlenose dolphins and birds!
