Olivia Newton-John

In memory of Olivia Newton-John

September 26, 1948 – August 8, 2022

The ACEER mourns the passing of our dear Board member Olivia Newton-John, wife of our current Board member John Easterling.  Olivia was a force for global conservation and held the ACEER in her heart for nearly 15 years.  When Olivia was first introduced to ACEER, then President Roger Mustalish explained the mission and passion of the ACEER.  Olivia’s response was direct and simple, “I can help with that.” And so it was.  She presented a benefit concert at the National Geographic Society in Washington, D.C. and then a world premiere of her album Grace and Gratitude at West Chester University in Pennsylvania.  Both raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of our mission.

Over the years, Olivia was a steady advocate, offered sage advice, and never wavered in her support of ACEER. She was a global conservation activist and with her husband John, promoted rainforest conservation and indigenous causes through ACEER and other organizations.  In recognition of this, the Board of Directors awarded her and John our first ACEER Legacy Award for recognition of lifelong contribution to conservation.

For those of us fortunate enough to know her personally, we were gifted by a presence that was super smart, witty, funny and deeply mindful. ACEER will soon announce our plans to honor the legacy of this very special person.  Our condolences to John Easterling and the extended family.

Thank you Olivia for your love and light.
