Biography:

Ellen is a graduate student at Duke University pursuing a Master of Environmental Management degree. She is passionate about understanding ecosystems to inform biodiversity conservation strategies. For her master’s project, Ellen is studying how characteristics of mineral licks affect species abundance within the Maijuna-Kichwa Regional Conservation Area (MKRCA). In 2023, Ellen joined ACEER as a research fellow and member of an interdisciplinary team to deploy camera traps across the MKRCA in collaboration with Maijuna community members. Her previous research includes studying biodiversity in the Duke Forest in North Carolina and assessing impacts of habitat fragmentation on cicadas. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a GIS minor from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. Ellen previously worked as a kayak ecotour guide in her hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, so she is really passionate about looking for wildlife (finding cool fossils), and connecting people with their local ecosystems!
